An introduction to Thunderbird, part 6

Importing e-mail and addresses

Changing to a new mail client doesn't have to be difficult, as long as you have a proper guide to help you. :) In this part of the introduction I will try to show you how to import and migrate all your information from your old mail client.   The client I will use as an example is Outlook Express, and the procedure should be similar for other supported clients.  Big topic, so buckle up. :)

If you go to Tools > Import, you will get this window, here you have 3 choices, I'll talk about two of them, importing email and address books.

Importing mail

Depending on which client you used before switching to Thunderbird, you check the box, I will for this example use Outlook Express, press next.

As you see, you will get a notification of what Thunderbird has imported from your other mail client, the last step to finish the import is to press the "Finish" button. :)

As you see, I've highlighted my folder for imported mail. Thunderbird will make a sub-folder in your local folders, so your mail doesn't get mixed up with other mail. To import mail from another client simply repeat the procedure. Now, was that difficult?

Importing address book
