Plone is one of the more popular and easy to setup content management
systems systems out there, and through these articles I will show you
how Plone can be used as a publishing system.
First off, what you need to do is go to the Plone demo site
and register as a user; you can do that by clicking on the "join"
link (these links may be labeled differently if your browser is
configured for a non-english language):
On the following page you're asked for name, username, email, password
and whether or not the password should be mailed to you. Note that all
fields that have a after their title require input, so username, email and password are required. I tend
to forget my passwords, so I checked that option as well.
When you're done filling in the details, press register and you should see the following page.
Click on "log in" to login immediately, without having to enter your
username and password. Now, when logged in you'll be presented with the
following view; we'll skip right to the juicy bits and go to the home
folder.
Click on "my folder" and you should get the following view, where you can
add a news item from the drop-down list (opened by clicking on "add
item").
Click on news item and you will get the following view, where you can
enter information about the news item. Note that title and body
text are required; we'll also enter the description here, it will
be shown on the news item as we'll see later. The body
text field has an advanced editor that supports formatting of the news
item if you want to make something bold, italic, right aligned and so on.
The news item has an elaborate set of input fields, but we'll just
enter information into title, description and body text for now.
As you can see below, you're also able to upload information into the
body text field from a file, I'll show you how that can be done in a
later article.
Click on save and you should get the following view with the information you just added. Easy isn't it? :)
